Sofi inició su tesis doctoral en el 2013 sobre el aguilucho negro (Circus maurus), dirigida por Rob Simmons y Graeme Cumming (University of Cape Town), Beatriz Arroyo y François Mougeot (EEZA-CSIC). La tesis se titula Understanding the causes of the scarcity of an avian predator using environmental and individual parameters with a conservation aim: the case of the threatened black harrier Circus maurus.
